Boat PPF Cost: What Decides the Price

What decides the cost of paint protection film on a boat: size, the areas covered, shape, access and preparation. No list price, and why.

"How much does it cost to put film on a boat?" is the first question most owners ask. The honest answer is that boat PPF is priced per boat rather than from a list, because no two jobs cover the same surface in the same way. This page explains what moves the number, so that any price you are given makes sense.

Why there is no list price

A car of a given model has the same panels as every other one. Boats differ far more: in length, in hull shape, in what is fitted to the deck, and in where they are kept. Two boats of the same length can need very different amounts of film and time. So the price is worked out for the specific boat and the specific areas.

Pricing and scheduling are agreed directly with whoever performs the work.

What decides the price

  1. Size of the boat. A longer boat has more surface in every area, so the same choice of areas covers more square feet.

  2. Which areas you choose. Hull sides above the waterline, topsides, deck, swim platform, transom and hardtop are separate decisions. One or two areas is a different job from all six.

  3. Shape and fittings. Curves, edges, rails, cleats, vents and hardware all need cutting and fitting around. The more there are in an area, the more time it takes.

  4. Access. Where the boat is kept, and whether it can be reached comfortably from all sides, changes how the work is done.

Does the boat need to come out of the water? It depends on the areas being protected and where the boat is kept. This is confirmed during your consultation.

  5. The surface underneath. Film does not repair damage, and existing chips and scratches can show through it. The surface is assessed before any film goes on.

If a surface needs repair first, that is done before any film goes on.

What is not part of the price conversation

Can the film go at or below the waterline? No. ONE PPF film is for surfaces above the waterline only.

Is there a marine warranty? No. ONE PPF does not offer a warranty for film installed on a boat.

Knowing both before you ask means the conversation is about the areas that can be covered, and nothing else.
