Satin PPF: Clear Satin Finish or Satin Color Film?
Satin PPF means two different films. HydroSatin keeps your paint color and changes the finish to a semi-gloss satin. A Satin Series color film changes the color and the finish together. Here is how to tell which one you want.
Two Different Films Share One Name
When someone searches for satin PPF, they usually mean one of two things, and the two lead to very different cars.
The first is a clear satin film. It goes over your existing paint, keeps your color exactly as it is, and changes how the surface reflects light, from a gloss shine to a soft semi-gloss satin. At ONE PPF that film is HydroSatin.
The second is a satin color film. It covers the paint with a new color that has a satin finish, so both the color and the sheen change. At ONE PPF those films are the Satin Series.
Both are paint protection film. The difference is whether you want to keep your color or change it.
HydroSatin: Keep Your Color, Change the Finish
HydroSatin is a clear, semi-gloss satin film, 7.5 mil thick, with a self-healing topcoat that lets light swirls fade with heat or sun. It sits in the middle of the ONE PPF clear lineup, between HydroGloss for full gloss and HydroMatte for a flat matte.
On a gloss car, HydroSatin turns the finish satin while your paint color stays the same and the original paint stays underneath. Because the look changes across the whole car, a gloss-to-satin finish change is done as a Full Vehicle installation, so every painted panel matches.
HydroSatin carries a 10-year limited film warranty. The warranty covers the film; see the warranty page for the terms by film.
The Satin Series: A New Color With a Satin Sheen
The Satin Series is a family of satin color films, from Satin Perfect Black and Satin Storm Gray to satin metallics such as Satin Metallic Ruby Red and Satin Metallic Hunter Green. Each one changes the color of the car and gives it a satin finish at the same time. The satin color films are 7.5 mil; Satin Carbon Fiber, a Carbon Fiber PPF, is 8 mil.
A full color change is a full-vehicle Color PPF installation. The satin color films carry a 10-year limited film warranty; Satin Carbon Fiber, a Carbon Fiber PPF, carries an 8-year limited film warranty.
If Your Car Already Has Satin Paint
Some cars leave the factory with satin or matte paint, and those finishes need a film made for them, not a gloss film that would add shine. HydroSatin can protect factory satin paint in its own finish when the film matches; we confirm the match on your car before we quote. HydroMatte is made for factory matte paint, and we confirm that match the same way.
That inspection step matters because factory finishes vary between makers and models, and the right film is the one that suits your paint when you see it in person.
Which One Fits Your Car
Ask one question first: do you want to keep your color?
If yes, and you want the satin look, HydroSatin over your paint is the route, installed as a Full Vehicle package so the whole car shares one finish. If your car already has satin paint, HydroSatin can protect it in its own finish once we confirm the match.
If you want a new color with a satin sheen, look at the Satin Series and a full-vehicle Color PPF installation.
Either way, your written estimate lists the exact coverage, the film and the price for your vehicle before any work is booked.
